As the profession continues to rethink the direction of the Social Work Reinvestment Act, which was first introduced by former Congressman Towns nearly a decade ago, YSocialWork, Inc. wants to serve as an incubator for a variety of innovative workforce and educational improvement programs to replicate across the country, in hopes to supply the next generation with the global and entrepreneurial skills to meet the increased demand for social work services in this new COVID-19 reality.
How We Do It
Creating opportunities for high school and community college students in social work is a fresh new start.
Our learning and career development continuum places a strong emphasis on work-based learning beginning as early as 11th grade in preparation for a career in social work. Through our continuum model, students will receive academic preparation for both high school completion, college readiness, and career development.
Strategic Plan 2020
One of YSocialWork’s strategic goals is to increase the number of high school and community college students in social work education programs. We intend to achieve this goal along the way by convening the youngest and brightest and equipping them with the necessary tools, including fundraising, community development, and digital storytelling, to achieve social, racial, and environmental change in human services.
The first phase is to pilot two overlapping recruitment programs. The Community College Student Internship and the High School Experiential Classroom can provide an exciting and challenging opportunity for youth and young adults who aspire to make a significant impact in the world but have not considered social work a career option.
Following this pilot year, YSocialWork, Inc. will convene a strategic planning committee of stakeholders who can further assess the direction of YSocialWork, Inc. for FY2.
